The *Back to Health Center* is now offering a series of classes to help promote your infant's health and provide post-partum planning. Please visit our calendar of events to see when classes are held and contact us today to sign you and your baby up for the next course!

Infant Massage Classes

This class is for parents/caregivers who are interested in a more hands-on, interactive approach to connecting with their baby. The classes are small enough so that parents and infants can interact and learn from each other. The course will teach the parent/caregiver the techniques to comfort, calm
and soothe your infant. *For this class, infants should be at minimum three months old -- and at maximum, crawling up to right before they are walking.

Infant Massage is an age-old tradition that has been passed down through generations since the beginning of time.

Infant massage provides numerous benefits including:

  • Infant-parent bonding
  • Promotes better sleep
  • Boosts immune system
  • Helps alleviate gas and promote elimination

This course will be taught over a number of 3 classes, enough time to give both the parent and baby time to become comfortable with receiving and giving massage. To ensure your confidence with the class material, each week the course instructor will demonstrate new strokes while reviewing strokes from previous classes. Combination Postpartum Preparation

This six-hour class combines Breastfeeding and Pumping, Baby Care, Babywearing, and Postpartum Planning classes in a one day boot camp class.  Here are the topics included:

Breastfeeding Basics – the basics anatomy and physiology of the breast, how to get a good latch, what to expect in the first days and weeks after birth and what to do if things don’t go as planned, what products might be helpful, how families members can support a breastfeeding mother, and where to find support groups for breastfeeding families. This class should help families feel more confident and prepared as they prepare to breastfeed their babies.

Pumping Basics – how a pump works, how to use a pump, pumping strategies, how to use a pump in the first weeks and months.  This also will assist with educating mothers who will be returning to work to become familiar before they return to work. This class helps mothers feel more confident in her ability to feed her child when she is home or away from her baby.

Baby Care Basics – basic things you will need to know when caring for your baby. This includes what a normal newborn baby looks like, how to do bathing, diapering, grooming, and soothing techniques for your baby. as well as the importance of sleep and nourishment for both family and baby. We will also talk about some products that might help make things easier. This class should help you feel more confident as you prepare to bring your baby home.

Babywearing Basics – basics of babywearing as a way to hold and sooth your baby while having two hands free. We will cover baybwearing safety and demonstrate several different types of carriers including stretchy wraps, soft structured carriers and baby slings. We will also talk about the benefits of babywearing for both parent and baby.

Postpartum Planning – how to write a postpartum plan that will help you prepare for the first days, weeks and months after your baby comes home. Topics include how to make sure you are caring for yourself, healing from the birth, getting enough sleep, having nourishing foods available for the family, planning for returning to work or staying at home, finding support in the home and among your peers, and more. The purpose of this class is to help you to think about what you want the early time with your baby to be like and to set plans in place to make this happen.

Hypnobirth Classes

A tried and proven method, HypnoBirthing® guides and prepares women to give birth in a peaceful, beautiful manner. It is a program that considers the psychological and physical well-being of the mother, her birth partner, and the newborn, independent of birth place. "HypnoBirthing® is a unique method of relaxed, natural childbirth education enhanced by self-hypnosis and guided imagery techniques that allow women to use their natural abilities to bring about safer, easier, and more comfortable birthing". HypnoBirthing® techniques teaches women how to release all prior fears about birth to free herself of limiting thoughts and emotions that lead to pain. HypnoBirthing techniques allow birthing parents to appreciate the benefits of a calm, gentle birth, making the experience joyful for mother, baby, and birth companion. HypnoBirthing® is taught in 5 - 3hr sessions and includes:

  • A copy of the 302-page HypnoBirthing Text, HypnoBirthing – The Mongan Method
  • 2 CDs for relaxation and stress reduction (Including the program cornerstone disk, Rainbow Relaxation)
  • Handouts for planning your Birth Preferences
  • A set of Birth Prompts for your birth
  • Companion Demonstration and practice of self hypnosis
  • Deep relaxation techniques for use during birthing
  • Calm breathing techniques for use through labor and during birthing
  • Small classes for personal attention
  • The advantage and confidence of the Mongan Method reputation for top-quality birthing preparation
